Welcome to Raymond Sherrard's Police Insignia website!
Collectors of law enforcement insignia are increasingly using the Internet, so I decided to get with it too.
About a year ago, I purchased the Orval Davis collection from his estate and began planning to sell or trade off most of it, hence this site.
This became a much bigger project than I envisioned to say the least. As a collector myself, I would want to view the face and reverse of any badge before I bought it, so those dual images are shown for each badge. To make your search easier, and to save time, the site is separated into albums, by state or category.
As a collector, I always look for provenance, and Chief Davis maintained detailed badge logs and kept copies of correspondence about the badges he received. It is rare to find this type of documentation (makes me wish that I had kept better records!) Almost all of the badges came directly from the Department, from the Chief or Sheriff, and nearly all have a badge log entry. You may submit any bid on any badge or badges you like. If yours is the only bid, and it seems reasonable, at the end of the bidding period, you get it. If there are competing bids, at the end of the bidding period, you will be given the high bid, and offered one chance to modify your bid within a specified time frame. Then the high bid takes it. I will begin accepting bids on the badges during the first week of August and the initial bidding will continue until September 1, 2007. At that time, the high bids will be posted or sent to you. If you aren't the high bidder, you will have another day to re-bid one time. As I am primarily a federal collector, and I am not familiar with most local, county or state badge prices, I am hoping that this will prove to be a fair method, and it will give everyone two chances. Caveat - Many of the badges shown on the site have been traded off or sold, and the list sometimes changes daily. I have been concentrating on the California badges, with a few surrounding states and I have also traded off some of the badges shown for badges I can use in my own collection. I collect federal badges, the older the better, and am happy to trade any of these badges for items I can use. I have four specialties, IRS, Federal Prohibition, Federal Narcotics, and the Intelligence Community, although I am interested in anything federal. I decided to leave all of the images on the site, so that collectors could see them for their own reference purposes. Thank you Raymond Sherrard
