The Final Bid Results list posted on the site dated (9-8-2007) does not represent the final winning bids, as we were hit with a flood of original bids and rebids at the last minute, too late to include.

I have been emailing and calling each bidder individually, after checking their original bids and rebids, and advising them of their winning bids, and of their opportunity to rebid when appropriate. In addition, I have been correcting editing and listing errors and filling and shipping packages. I am doing this alphabetically, and am just starting today on the letter N. My goal is to get in touch with each bidder prior to October 3rd, when I leave to attend the National, and let them know where they stand. I will be at the National Meet in Reno from October 3rd until October 8th.

Thank you for your patience in this long undertaking.

Thank you all for your overwhelming response to the sale of the Orval Davis badges. We have received about six times as many bids as we expected and we have thousands of messages and bids to review, collate and integrate into the final bid results. There are also a number of collectors that we need to talk with to clarify items.

It is going to be a week or two before I have the final bids sorted out and checked against the original bids and the remaining badge inventory. Please hold your emails and calls until I get in touch with you-unless you have an urgent question.

By a prior agreement, all the original high-bidders (who were outbid) from the 1st round of bidding will have one last opportunity to out bid the current bid. I will contact each of you individually over the next week.

Many bidders have asked for more time to review the initial posted high bids, citing a variety of reasons:

a. Too many bids to review in 24 hours.

b. Some are on vacation and have limited access to computers.

c. Holiday overtime for those of you still on the job.

d. Calculation of just how much they can spend without triggering a divorce!

In that spirit, we are extending the rebidding time from 24 hours to 72 hours. The high bids will be posted shortly, and the time and date of posting will be included. You will now have three days (72 hours) to review the list and decide on rebidding. Once all the rebids are in, we will tally them up and get in touch with the successful bidders individually, to arrange the delivery.

a. If we have a tie bid, the earlier bid takes.

b. Shipping-we will ship using any carrier the buyer wants . Since you are paying, you get to choose. You will only be charged the actual costs we pay. Caution, we intend to ship via a method that provides insurance and tracking capability, due to past bad experiences. We WILL ship uninsured and without tracking, but only at your sole risk. Federal Express, Express Mail and other such services will do this and, so far, they have never lost a package.

c. The initial bidding will end at midnight, Pacific Coast Time on August 31st, 2007. We will labor mightily to have the resulting high bids posted on the site sometime during the day on Saturday, September lst, 2007. In any event, you will have twenty-four hours after the time of posting of the bid results to re-bid-one time only. The second bid is final.

d. Should I be offered a trade for a federal item I can use in my collection at anytime during the bidding process, I will give the trade priority over a sale. I am interested in building my collection, not just in selling the badges.

e. I must stress that we decided to show all of the images of the Orval Davis collection, not just the ones for sale, as many collectors never had the opportunity to view them, and wanted images for their reference files. This guaranteed that some of the badges shown will have been sold or traded off prior to the start of this auction.

f. I do have prices for the California badges, courtesy of some veteran California badge collectors, so you may buy them anytime, and dont have to wait for the auction to end. Just email and let me know your choices.
Thanks to Max Bellard and other sharp-eyed and more experienced collectors who noted that some of the relevant areas had not been covered in our initial posting on the site. I appreciate your input and believe that it will result in a better understanding.
